Kosciusko County and its Board of County Commissioners are currently looking at the feasibility of providing a western alternate route around the City of Warsaw to connect State Road 15 and State Road 25 to U.S. 30.
A Corridor Study has been undertaken by The Troyer Group, Inc. to research the existing conditions of the local transportation system, analyze the future travel demands within the corridor, develop a purpose and need statement and identify feasible alternatives.
The corridor study must be performed to Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) standards to obtain federal funding for the project.
The corridor study process involves the following steps:
1. Develop a Corridor Work Plan
2. Conduct an Inventory of the Existing transportation System
3. Document Existing and Projected Environmental/Land Use Conditions
4. Analyze the Future Travel Demands and Performance of the Corridor
5. Develop a Purpose and Need Statement
6. Identify Feasible Alternatives
7. Analyze Feasible Alternatives to Establish a Preferred Alternative
8. Prepare a Corridor Study Document
One of the key elements in the corridor study process is to obtain public input. There are several public meetings planned for the project to encourage public participation in the corridor study process.
All projects involving the use of federal funding must follow the established procedures under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) regarding environmental assessment/impacts. The environmental process is another key element of the project and involves coordination with numerous governmental agencies |
